Camping: 6 Fundamental Guidelines

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

More and more people cut back on vacationing abroad during slow economic times. Many of these people find a great (and inexpensive) alternative closer to home in camping. If you don’t mind reconnecting with nature, then you should consider a camping trip for your next vacation.

Camping Safety
Camping can be great fun, but the basics are often overlooked. Follow these 6 fundamental camping tips and you’re off to a great start!

  • Do not leave without a trace – Inform a family member, friend, or relative of your camping plans and location. An accident in the middle of nowhere can turn into a catastrophe if nobody knows you’re missing in the first place.
  • The Weather changes – It might be 80 degrees today without a single cloud in the sky, but that doesn’t mean it is going to be that way later today or tomorrow. Don’t take risks with mother nature, your tent could easily fall victim to brutal winds or large hail. You could also be overcome by a flash flood or blizzard. More likely though, it would just plain suck to have nasty weather ruin your camping trip.
  • Drinking Water – I know this one seems obvious right? You’d be surprised how many people leave without water and end up at a campground with no store or anywhere near. Water serves multiple purposes and is good for more than just drinking it.
  • Bring something to Eat – Keep in mind that not every single campsite has a store, some not even without an hour’s driving range, so bring your own food. You’ll find plenty of “what food to bring”-tips in the introduction to camping.
  • Dry Clothes… that stay dry – Bring extra clothing in case you get caught in a storm. Even summer can bring storms that can make the temperature drop well below comfortable levels. Don’t forget to put your spare clothes in a WATERPROOF bag.
  • Fire – If you’re going to build a campfire, be sure to clear at least 20 feet around it. Also note that just because you took the necessary precautions doesn’t mean the camper a few miles away from you did. If you see a big plume of smoke in the distance, you better pack up FAST as wildfires can travel at insane speeds.

These tips barely scratch the surface of a safe camping trip. You can find details as well as additional tips on camping safety, planning a camping trip, what to pack, what tent to bring on my camping trip site.

Aberdeen: Scotland, Places To Visit In The Granite City

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Aberdeen is the third largest city in Scotland, in relation to the size of the city’s population. Aberdeen’s buildings, since the mid eighteenth century, have been made using local grey granite and the city has a sandy coastline. This has led to the city being nicknamed the Silver City and also the Granite City. However in more recent times the city has also gained the nicknames of the Oil Capital of Europe or the Energy Capital of Europe due to the discovery of oil in the North Sea. The city has greatly benefitted from the revenue generated by the oil industry and the support industries. Nowadays the city is thoroughly modern and immensely vibrant with a wild nighlife.

Aberdeen hotels are often booked by businessmen but also by many other types of visitors eager to enjoy the many tourist attractions the city has to offer. Below you will read details of 3; Satrosphere Science Centre, Aberdeen Maritime Museum and Duthie Park Winter Gardens:

Aberdeen Maritime Museum

The Maritime Museum in Aberdeen is situated close by the harbor, at the historic Shiprow. There are glorious panoramas of the harbour from the museum. The Maritime Museum can be found in a small number of buildings, which include a former church and one of the oldest residences in Aberdeen. The museum has exhibits which cover everything relating to the seagoing environment, from the oil industry to the fishing boats. In essence, the museum tells the  story of Aberdeen’s lengthy relationship with the sea. Some of the collections contain paintings, ship plans, photographs and models from the most major of Aberdeen’s shipbuilders.

Duthie Park Winter Gardens

Lady Elizabeth Duthie of Ruthrieston,in 1881, gifted 44 acres of land, to the council. The land for the park was purchased, as a lasting memorial to her uncle and brother. In 1899, when the gardens were completed, they opened up to the public. However, in 1969 disaster struck and the greenhouses had to be demolished and reconstructed. This was due to horrendous storm damgage. Today, the David Welch Winter Gardens at Duthie Park are one of Scotland’s favourite garden attractions, and also the largest indoor gardens in the whole of Europe. Each greenhouse has an important collection such as, the Tropical House, Temperate House, Japanese Garden, Fern House, Victorian House and Corridor of Perfumes.

Satrosphere Science Centre

One of the first science and discovery centers in Scotland was the, Satrosphere Science Center, in Aberdeen. This interactive, hands-on science center, has over 50 exhibits and live science demonstrations, and opened its’ doors to the public in 1988. Even though the center is aimed at primary age children, the attraction of the exhibits is universal. The center is found in the old tram sheds, near to the sea front, on Constitution Street. The aim is to inspire children to become scientist’s, as entry into science courses in universities, is in decline. One of the favorite exhibits at the center is the famous giant soap bubble, where each child can be enclosed within a magic bubble.

There are many other tourist attractions in and around Aberdeen which are well worth visiting and the three above were chosen randomly. If you are planning to take a vacation in Aberdeen, Scotland then you will find numerous quality hotels in Aberdeen, or many other forms of accommodation, available to book online.

When one is making travel plans to visit the Netherlands, the easiest arrangements that you will make for your trip will likely be choosing from the many Amsterdam hotels available. The reason for this is that there is a terrific number of wonderful Netherlands hotels, resorts, inns and hostels that visitors to the area can choose from. Within the center of Amsterdam city, there are locally owned hotels as well as many “name brand” hotel chains that are familiar to all travelers.

For travelers who might be making their first ever trek into Europe, seeking out the world-wide hotels chains can be a good way to begin your European experience, since there will be many amenities and services that will be so familiar. And, when traveling, especially to a destination for the very first time, familiarity helps the tourist to feel more comfortable right away and comfort is always the aim of the quality hotels that you will find.

Regardless of what part of the globe you will be arriving from, there are plenty of flights to Amsterdam, as it is one of the busiest airports in Europe. Located within the Amsterdam Schiphol airport are a number of Amsterdam hotels for those who will either be in the area briefly or who simply prefer the close proximity to their air transportation.

However, it is fair to say that the “best of the best” hotels in Amsterdam will be found in the very heart of the vibrant and effervescent city itself. In addition to the many “name brand” hotel chains that are located in the city, there are also the European boutique hotels that will supply more of the flair and flavor of Europe and will give their guests a better taste of European living, when compared to the chain hotels. That said, even the chain hotels, especially those that are four-star and five-star rated, will be imbued with much of the local culture, which will naturally be passed on to their guests.

The variety of hotels in Amsterdam spans the complete spectrum, from the high-end, luxurious accommodations for the more upscale clientele, to cheap and clean discount hotels that help people to stretch their budgets for their Amsterdam travel. This makes it easy for people to find just the right hotel to meet their level of needs and requirements in terms of style, comfort, amenities, and also convenience to the places that they plan to visit during their trip to Amsterdam.

For some people, they simple want to locate an Amsterdam hotel that will provide them with a good night’s sleep and clean bathroom facilities. However, for others, they are looking for just the right hotel that will help to make their trip into a true, once-in-a-lifetime experience, with the pampering and European style that so many Netherlands hotels have earned a reputation for.

As you begin searching for Amsterdam hotels for your trip it is a good idea to have a list of the things that are most important to you. If you will be primarily out and about sightseeing around Amsterdam, then you might be happy with a one or two star hotel. However, if your plans center on having a luxurious European experience, then choosing Netherlands hotels with a five star rating will most likely be a better fit for you.

cheap last minute airfares

Are you interested in chartering a private jet? If you are, there is a good chance that you have already done a little bit of research online. When examining the online websites of private jet chartering companies, did you come across something that is referred to as a membership plan or a membership card? These types of plans are offered by many jet chartering companies, so there’s a chance you may have seen them before.Ever wonder why you should join a membership program?  If you have, you are definitely not alone.

When it comes to joining a jet chartering membership program, there are many individuals who wonder if they should join, but even more individuals wonder what they are. Although it is not uncommon to find these types of membership plans available online, it is somewhat difficult to learn what they are. There seems to be a perception among the jet chartering companies that expect consumers to know all about their membership plans.  Unfortunately, for this reason, there are a large number of individuals who opt not to join a membership program, when they could actually benefit from doing so.

It’s best to compare private jet chartering membership cards to something that is familiar, such as grocery savings cards. If you sign up for a grocery store savings card, you are given extra benefits just for being considered a member.  These benefits may include specials deals or savings, newsletters, and much more.  The same can be said for a private jet chartering membership. You’ll be offered perks if you sign up for a membership; not all travellers have access to these perks.  Just a few of these extra member benefits are outlined below.

One of the many benefits to joining a private jet chartering membership plan is the option of making your reservations at the last minute.  For regularly travelers, it is not uncommon for a company to request that reservations be placed at least forty-eight hours in advance.  With a jet chartering membership, you are given a little bit more flexibility.  Many jet chartering companies allow their members to make their reservations up to twelve hours beforehand.  This extra perk is nice if you are business owner or business executive who regularly finds yourself making last minute travel bargains for meetings.

The ease of use is another benefit when joining a private jet chartering company. When you join a membership program, a special account is created for you. This account will likely hold all of your travel information, like your address, your billing information, your jet preferences, and so on.  When it comes time to booking a private jet charter, this membership should be able to save you a considerable amount of time, as you are able to bypass a lot of the needed paperwork.  If you have a membership card that allows you to place deposits on it, you may be able to have your reservations processed and paid for in no time at all.  In fact, that is one of the many reason why members are often given the option to make cheap last minute airfares arrangements.

The decision as to whether or not you want to join a private jet chartering membership club or plan is yours to make, but it is something that is worth looking into. If you have any questions or concerns about the program, you are advised to contact a company representative for more information.
